Did you know steel boilers expand and contract? On this episode of the Boiling Point, Ritchie and Mike Taylor discuss boiler vessel expansion and leg connections. Leg connections are used to allow for expansion and contraction as the boiler heats.
More about Boiler Vessel Expansion...
There are two types of leg connections: bolted and welded. If the leg connections are bolted, the connections allow for the boiler to heat and expand without breaking. When the connections are welded, it prevents the boiler from moving freely and can cause breaking. As the boiler travels to the job site, the bolts should be tight, but loosened upon arrival at your facility or job site to allow for movement.
