Last week, WARE's very own Steve Taylor presented at the 8th Chem/Petrochem & Refinery Shutdowns and Turnarounds. At the conference Steve gave a keynote address on a very important topic in the boiler industry, boiler rental best practices.
Steve discussed key steps to take when renting a boiler and how to create a plan for boiler rentals. Whether you need a rental boiler for annual maintenance or an unexpected shutdown, it is imperative to be prepared. At WARE it is our passion to provide the right rental boiler for your needs and help you have the best boiler rental experience possible, so we want to share with you a few takeaways from Steve's presentation.
Boiler Rental Best Practices: Have a Contingency Plan
When renting a boiler, the best way to be prepared is to have a contingency plan. A contingency plan is a plan designed around future or possible circumstances that details the steps that would be taken when the event occurs. A boiler rental contingency plan takes into account and plans for the following components of renting a boiler:
- Utilities: Make sure you have a plan for the connection of steam lines, condensate return, fuel lines, electrical hook up, water supply, and boiler blowdown.
- Inclement weather protection: In what weather will the boiler be operating? High or freezing temperatures, rain, snow, and excessive debris will all affect the operation of your boiler. Plan accordingly for the climate of the job site to optimize boiler performance.
- Proximity to foot traffic and other buildings: Make protective provisions for people and building that may be in contact with the boiler system.
- Permitting: To operate a boiler you must comply with local laws by obtaining permits, including installation and operation permits.
These factors as well as other important steps can be found on our Boiler Rental Contingency Plan Checklist. Download the checklist to make sure you are adhering to boiler rental best practices. Even if you don't plan to rent a boiler in the near future you should still create a boiler rental contingency plan, because boiler emergencies don't wait for convenient timing.
