On this episode of Steam Culture, Brent talks about the power of the sun and how it can be used to generate steam, which then turns a turbine to create electricity.
The sunlight is reflected off the heliostats and directed to a large tower that houses a solar receiver. The solar energy reflected from the heliostats can heat the boiler to over 1,000 degrees.
Fun fact: One of the largest heliostat installations is called Ivanpah and is located in the Mojave Desert in California. The image in this blog is a picture of Ivanpah.
