Behind the Scenes: How WARE Inspects and Maintains Rental Boilers Between Jobs

WARE is proud to offer one of the largest rental boiler fleets in the country. We’re also proud of our reputation for offering dependable, reliable rental equipment for any job using our equipment. So how do we offer both at the same time? In other words, how do our rental boilers continue to offer reliable performance even after putting in grueling hours on other jobs? The answer is simple. We use our skill and expertise to keep them in top shape, so our customers get the same dependable performance from every boiler they rent.

RENTAL BOILERS

Whether you’re dealing with a planned outage of your regular boiler or trying to find an emergency replacement for an unexpected boiler failure, WARE is your trusted partner to get the job done. We offer one of the nation’s largest rental fleets, with everything from small hot water boilers to trailer-mounted mobile boiler rooms putting out 1000 horsepower to even larger, 100,000 lbs/hr watertube boilers. But no matter what you rent, you’ll get a durable boiler that puts in the hard work to keep you up and running, without costly downtime.

WHAT SETS WARE APART

One of the reasons our rental boilers are known for their dependability has to do with the time we put into them. Other boiler rental companies often cut corners by giving their boilers a cursory exam before sending them back into the field. Even worse, sometimes other companies will send a rental boiler directly from the old job site to the new job site. WARE, on the other hand, puts in the work. We can spend days to weeks inspecting and refurbishing a single rental boiler before it goes back out into the field, but we do it gladly. Because that’s how it’s done right, which is what our customers deserve.

THE OUTSIDE

We start with a complete walk-around looking for damage to the unit such as dents in the trailer, broken parts, or obvious hot spots. Then we thoroughly clean the outside of each boiler and touch up the paint to keep them looking great.

THE INSIDE

  • The next few steps really show WARE’s dedication to reliability and performance.
  • We open the fire side to check for sooting or any damage to the refractory. If there is any, we address it immediately.
  • We open the water side to check for pitting, scale, and sludge. If we find any, we bring in an expert chemical cleaning service to remove it all completely with an acid bath followed by a complete flush of all water side components.
  • We visually inspect all the fire and water tubes for leaks.
  • We check every hand-operated valve to make sure it’s leak-free and that it turns smoothly and precisely.
  • We check all the piping for any signs of leakage.
  • We make sure the sight glass is clear and easy to read, and not cloudy or cracked.
  • We inspect every gauge to make sure it isn’t cracked, and that it’s operating properly.
  • We check the low-water cutoff probes for fouling (a common problem) and clean them thoroughly.
  • If the rental unit has been on the job site for an extended period, we remove the safety relief valves and send them to the Valve Shop for a complete overhaul.
  • If the rental unit is a mobile boiler room, we inspect the pumps to make sure they’re operating at peak performance, rotating correctly

THE AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT

WARE isn’t just particular about our rental boilers. We’re also very careful to inspect any auxiliary equipment that went out with the rental boiler, as well.

  • We check deaerators and vented feedwater systems for scale, sludge, oxygen pitting, and corrosion. If we find any, we fix it.
  • We check the components of the water softener to make sure they’re operating up to spec, especially if the rental boiler was operating in freezing conditions (which can be extra rough on water softeners if they are not kept warm or are not drained properly.)

A COMPLETE PRESSURE TEST

The most important step in our rental boiler inspection is the hydrostatic test. During this test, the boiler is filled and then subjected to internal pressure. While it’s pressurized, we monitor the water level carefully to make sure that it doesn’t fluctuate, because any change in the water level would indicate a leak somewhere in the boiler. If the water level doesn’t change and no leaks are detected, the boiler passes the hydrostatic test.

SAFETY CONTROLS

One of the most important inspections we perform is a complete examination and test of all safety systems, including a complete and thorough electrical test. In the field, wires can become loose, damaged, scuffed, or cut, which hampers the proper and safe operation of a boiler. We make sure the integrity of every safety system is 100%, so our customers get a rental boiler that’s as safe as it is reliable.

NOT JUST THE BOILER

Every year (or as needed), our rental boiler trailers are inspected by experts from a third-party tractor-trailer company who do a complete DOT inspection to make sure all the trailer components, from brake lines and brake pads to tires and hitches, are in great shape. Then they inspect the chassis of the trailer to check for rust or other damage.

THE FINAL STEP

As a final touch of professionalism, we wash the trailer and wipe every trailer tire with tire shine. Because even to the smallest detail, every boiler in the field is a reflection of the care we take every step of the way. A dirty, chipped, or rusted boiler or trailer says “shortcuts were taken” or “details don’t matter.” Both of which don’t apply here at WARE. We go the extra mile in every way, every time.

The attention to detail we put into our rental boilers represents the same professionalism and care we put into every aspect of our business. In addition to offering new boilers, rental boilers, service and maintenance, we also offer the nation’s largest online warehouse for parts and supplies. But that’s not all. WARE also offers some of the country’s best boiler training, as well. Our Boiler University offers a range of online and in-person classes that can turn anyone into a boiler expert, or train anyone to be a top-notch boiler technician. Whatever you need, we’re here to help. And we’ll always bring our A-game, every time.
