Steam and Shuttle Launches - Steam Culture

Today's Steam Culture takes us out of this world! On this episode, Brent shows us how the folks at NASA launch rockets safely with the help from water. That water gets turned into our favorite thing ever, Steam!
When boosters are firing, the sound suppression system is activated and the rainbirds flood the launchpad (with 300,000 gallons of water!) to counteract the acoustical energy and reflective pressure.

As the rocket launches, it creates a giant plume of white steam, which was the water that evaporated under the intense heat of the rocket fuel.

Watch the video to learn more and see a super cool rocket launch at the end!
