What Is Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage?

In this steam culture, Brent investigates underground steam extraction. This video will be "groundbreaking" - see what I did there?

Oil sands are a thick mixture located below earth's surface of sand, water, clay and bitumen. Bitumen is an oil that is too heavy to flow without being diluted.

In order to dilute the bitumen, engineers use high pressure steam through a process called Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD). The high pressure steam allows the bitumen to be captured in a well and pumped to the surface.
