Today on Steam Culture, Brent talks about how steam shovels were utilized to dig the iconic Ridge Road in California. The Ridge Route is a section of highway opened in 1915 that connected Bakersfield to Los Angeles. They had to literally cut through the mountains to build this road, and the largest cut is known as Swede’s cut.
