Generally, fire-tube boilers are designed for lower pressure and less capacity than water-tube boilers―but their operating ranges overlap. A typical fire-tube boiler might have a steam production rate of 5,000 to 60,000 pounds per hour, while a typical water-tube boiler might have a steam production rate of 40,000 to 400,000 pounds per hour. Fire-tube boilers produce saturated steam in most all cases. They also are economical, efficient and easy to maintain.
